Julie Comes Out On Top!

It was a great weekend in Warwick, RI for the New England Verge Series finale at NBX. I remember last year at this race being bitter cold, the only race at which I wore leg-warmers. This year brought unseasonably warm conditions, in the 50s - perfect for a long walk on the beach! But this isn’t a weather report…

Let’s talk about Julie! If you’ve ever met Julie, you know that she’s overwhelmingly positive and also incredibly humble. Put her in front of a camera and she blushes immediately. Tell her how great she is and she turns it around into a compliment to you. So let’s use this week to say all the nice things about her that she won't say herself? Deal? Ok, good.

Northampton CX, A Team Averica Dinner Discussion

Julie - I put my handlebar in Brittlee Bowman’s wheel and feel badly about it. I tried chasing her around the entire course to apologize, but she wouldn’t wait up. Sorry Brittlee!

Hannah - I ate it on the pro-only section. But I kept riding it because why not?

Erin - I needed a closer look at the barrier. Unclipping is overrated.

Julie - On Saturday I carried my bike up the run-up like it was a teacup, with my pinky high in the air.

Hannah - I finished on the lead lap, triumphantly.

Erin - I saw Julie stop pedaling for a second and it made me pedal harder. I still didn’t catch her.

Julie is Exhausted but Earned Her First UCI Points at Charm City!

I got a UCI point at Charm City! Basically my season is over now. I think I’ll spend the next 8 weekends sleeping in, having coffee in a mug that’s not a to go cup and experiencing what it’s like to sit on my couch and read books again. JK, there’s no fun in that.

It was my first weekend racing without any Team Averica teammates…and after Holy Week of racing and warming up together, reviewing the course and talking about race tactics, it was pretty lonely. BUT Drew (Husband Drew) came and it was especially awesome to have him there.

Holy Week Roundup

Another NEW ENGLAND HOLY WEEK OF CYCLOCROSS ™ (OMG) has come and gone, and now, with the kind of hindsight that can only come with eight straight days of rest, it almost seems like five races in nine days is a totally reasonable thing. As is typical, the races were totally stacked with national talent. Even our local mid-week race saw the current World Cup leader, Katerina Nash, show up to throw down the locals. So how did we mortals fare?

Team Averica with Photographer Chris McIntosh

I would love to call myself a lark, but it’s really only under duress.  Like catching the crisp autumn light at Larz Anderson in Brookline, MA for photos with local, Boston-based photographer, Chris McIntosh.  The Avericans, as we are interpersonally known, showed up ready to meet the world, through images.  There was running, sprinting, riding up stairs, and ledge-sitting.  Also cartwheeling, which was Erin’s idea and she’s especially bad at them.  Something about the landing process, doesn’t quite work.  Julie showed us the pointy end of her skill base by riding up a set of steps. I’ll chalk it up to her new Seven, even she said it was like cheating.  It was fun.  #CxIsHere, we are working hard for results, and looking like we’re hardly working--wait that’s not true, it’s ‘cross.  See you over the barriers, through the sand and mud with a fight for the finish line.

- Hannah
